Hello Alder Grove Families,
After a rainy week, I look out my office window and see sunshine! While I know it’s a little deceptive (the wind is chilly!), I am very appreciative of the sunshine while it’s here. Welcome to the spring semester, named after the longer days and blooming flowers right around the corner! This month we are continuing the Interimpalooza! This test prep event happened January 18th and 26th, where we had excellent turnout and the students had a great time. The next event is February 9th from 9 to 2. The interim assessments prepare 2nd to 11th grade students for CAASPP (Smarter Balanced) testing later in April. Interimpalooza features door prizes, a pizza lunch, and drawings for bigger prizes. We’re hoping that by making the event fun, students will want to participate in test practice. Students take math modules from the interim CAASPP assessments by grade level, and CTs will receive detailed results. It’s very handy to know what concepts your students have mastered and which they haven’t. Ultimately, this makes the interim assessments a helpful teaching tool. A big thank you goes out to Stefani Gambrel who worked hard to organize this event and to our participating students. We would love to have at least one more parent join the School Leadership Team. This group consists of parents, teachers, and admin, and works to review policies and procedures, helps in the hiring process, and reviews items that will go to the Governance Council for final approval. It’s an important, boots-on-the-ground team that affects the school positively. The next meeting is February 8th at noon. Thank you to everyone who participates and has participated in the Leadership Team. Your contribution is immense!

I would also like to thank our hard-working Governance Council. Look for another Council member to introduce herself later in this newsletter.

Check this and future newsletters and email updates for more career-training opportunities. Jen Burtram, our College and Career Coordinator, has been working hard to introduce career pathway introduction courses in computer technology, health careers, and more in the future. Please call or email Jen (jen.burtram@aldergrovecharter.org) to get info. And a warm welcome to Brett Docherty (our IT guy), and Rabecca Cornelius, who are each working on their Career Technical Education (CTE) credential and teaching CTE courses! As always, we are deeply appreciative of all of you. Thank you for choosing AGCS as your personalized learning option for education!
